The Moroccan Party Experience Political system and Party Effectiveness
This study examines the Moroccan party experience by analyzing the interaction between the structural determinants of the political system and the inherent dysfunctions of political parties. It aims to evaluate the limits of their effectiveness within the political framework.
The study's premise is that the nature of the Moroccan political system and the centrality of the Monarchy play the main role in shaping the party landscape. This landscape reflects the numerical pluralism rather than genuine political pluralism. As such, it thereby restricts the independence and effectiveness of party performance and limits its exercise of power if it wins the elections.
Conversely, the study reveals internal problems plaguing the parties. The major ones are the crisis of renewing political elites, weak internal democracy, and widespread splits. Altogether, it weakens the political parties' overall capacity to structure, represent, and produce political alternatives. The repercussions of the political party's main problem result in a party system that is limited in effectiveness.
The study concludes that the Moroccan party system faces main problems that overlap the complexity of the interplay between objective and subjective factors. It reveals serious needs for reforms to strengthen party independence, consolidate internal democracy, and restore their representative function, ultimately paving the way for genuine political pluralism.
